Root Canal Therapy

Relieve Pain and Save Your Teeth with Advanced Root Canal Treatment

It’s common for patients to feel nervous about an upcoming root canal and unfortunately, endodontic therapy has a reputation for being painful, but you will be relieved to find out that a root canal is easier and less painful than you anticipated. In fact, instead of causing pain, a root canal relieves oral pain, so our patients leave our practice feeling much better than when they came in.

Have you been told that a root canal is the only remedy for your debilitating toothache? You have nothing to worry about. If you are near the Metro Atlanta area, please schedule an appointment with Endodontics Associates of Georgia. We combine technology and artistry to perform precise root canals, even for the most complex cases.

Our gentle approach to root canal therapy

A root canal will be recommended if bacteria has seeped into your pulp chamber, creating an infection. At this stage, the only treatment is removing the unhealthy, diseased tissue. A typical root canal treatment involves numbing your tooth and then accessing your tooth’s internal canals by making a hole at the top of your crown (on the chewing surface of molars and premolars and the tongue side for front teeth). Next, the diseased tissue is removed, and your canals are cleaned and filled with a permanent filling material called gutta percha. Finally, the tooth is sealed with a temporary filling and you will be expected to return to your general dentist in two to three weeks to have your permanent crown completed.

Our approach to root canal treatment is slightly different. Since we always strive to take a minimally invasive approach to dentistry, we have infused GentleWave® Procedure into our root canal process. This technique is an additive to manual instrumentation by using optimized procedure fluids, which preserve much of your tooth when removing the diseased tissues.

The system distributes fluids throughout your root canals, effectively cleaning your tooth without compromising its structural integrity. Also, thoroughly cleaning your tooth means you greatly decrease your chances of needing a root canal retreatment later.

Aftercare tips after a root canal

Once the anesthesia wears off hours after treatment, you may start experiencing discomfort and sensitivity. This discomfort is normal and can be managed with over-the-counter medication. We also encourage:

  • Eating soft foods
  • Gargle your mouth with warm, salty water to help with gum pain
  • Cold compresses to minimize swelling
  • Avoiding chewing with the treated tooth until the discomfort dissipates
  • Optimal oral hygiene to prevent infection around the treated tooth

Following the root canal treatment, healing should be uneventful if you follow the post-procedure recovery tips from your endodontist. Although you may experience discomfort after treatment, this only lasts for a few days. If the pain persists, please get in touch with us to establish whether you need to visit us for an evaluation.
